Phu Ruea or boat mountain is only 121 sq.km, but it has the highest peak at 1,365 m. above sea level. It is a sandy granite mountain of Phu Ruea National Park in Loei province which connected to Laos kingdom. At the top, it is viewpoint that you can panoramically see Khong river – an international border river. It is also the water source of many creeks and rivers in the area. More than half of its top is covered with low shrubbery, grasslands and strangely formed rock formations. The mountain has many kinds of plants and wild lives. It comprises open pine forest, savannah fields with diverse ground flora and large natural rockeries on which growing plants. There are approximately 105 bird species and the animals, plenty of orchid species which flower throughout the year. There are many interesting activities and beautiful landscapes for travelers such as nature trail study, flower adiring, viewing, biking trail, bird watching, stargazing, waterfall traveling and cave touring. |
| Getting There : Phu Ruea is situated 48 km.(30ml.) from Loei province. The province is far from Bangkok 520 km.(322ml.) There are available to go there by air, bus and car. By air, there are 2-3 flights a week form Bangkok to Loei, then conneting local bus to Phu Ruea district. By bus, there are daily direct bus service from Bangkok to Phu Ruea. By car, using the highway No.203 to Phu Ruea district, then turn right and gurther to about 4 km.(2.48ml) to the park office. The park offers some of accomodation but needed booking in advance. There are also various available accomodation for travelers near the park. |
