Doi Phatang or high steep slope mountain is located at the border of Lao and Thailand kingdom and is one of the top northernmost viewpoints. This mountain is the popular scene of wintersun over beautiful range. It is 1,800 meters (5,940 feet) high above sea level and is one part of Pamon range. Its shape is a long range wiht many montains connected from one to another. The interesting traveling places are Hill slope No.103, Bong Cliff, Khao Kad Defile. Hill Slope No.103 is a good viewpoint. It covered with grass field and mountain complex. Bong Cliff has a big manhole as the entrance to Lao kingdom, on the day which clear sky travelers can see Lao’s landscape and evergreen forest at the opposite side. Khao Kad Defile is the gap of mountain that departed from each other and has Mekong river at below. |
| Getting There : Doi Patang is located at Wiang Kaen district in Chiang Rai province. Chiang Rai is far from Bangkok 785 kilometers (487 miles). There are daily flights and frequent air conditioned buses from Bangkok to Chiang Rai. Get on public bus at Chiang Rai to Chiang Kong district, and connecting with local bus to Doi Phatang. There are 2 departure times at 9:00 A.M and 3:00 P.M. It takes time 2-3 hours. At Doi Phatang, there are some guesthouses and camping service with satisfied rate for travelers. |
